Our Approach

Our planet is facing unprecedented environmental challenges that are impacting the beauty and functionality of ecosystems that provide us with the essentials for survival – air, water and food. The present state of the environment is progressively deteriorating the quality of human life and jeopardizing the welfare of future generations. We are seeing images of waste, trash and litter polluting our waterways and oceans, landfills that are at capacity, forests being razed at alarming rates, and pollution saturating the planet, including our food and bodies. Climate change is making the weather more severe, and the commercial world is creating massive waste problems, with many products having a short life cycle or being single use.

The digital and technological revolution has brought many positive advances in areas such as medicine, energy and appliances. However, these advances have also created a tsunami of obsolete electronics and e-waste, for which there is little or no proper infrastructure to handle sustainably. As a result, most of the electronics end up in landfills or the environment, exacerbating an already dire situation.

Most people feel overwhelmed and powerless to address the problem. Trash Talk Tom is our brand giving a voice to these issues, and we have created six focused areas that we call our Global Environmental Initiatives. These initiatives are all interconnected and play a part in securing a clean and healthy world. The largest initiative consists of taking an aggressive approach to raise awareness and find solutions to accelerate the task of cleaning up the environment – an enormous task that can take decades. Our approach is grounded in common sense; we recognize that while some people may not care or may not see the problems as affecting them, millions and billions of other people do care. We inspire these people and help motivate and direct them, creating the synergy needed to make a difference.

Achieving a cleaner and healthier world will take personal responsibility, as well as the collective effort of organizations, corporations, charities and governments. We must work together to change mindsets and behaviors, and respect the environment.

Through public awareness campaigns, anti-litter commercials, marketing, environmental psychology, education, sustainability and recycling, we can help stop the flow of litter and waste entering our environment. Prevention is key; we must break the cycle of endless clean-ups by responsibly taking care of our waste, whether through our communities or governments.

A crucial aspect of our mission is to help developed and developing countries collaborate in sharing the engineering, technology, equipment and knowledge of best practices needed for responsible waste management. The enormity of the task ahead can be daunting, but we believe that with conviction and dedication, we can create a cleaner, healthier world.
